Why Your Tooth May Be Loose

The first thing to determine is your age. Okay! Now that we have confirmed you are an adult with a loose tooth let’s continue on. There are many reasons your tooth could be loose, but there is nothing to worry about. There are plenty of treatments to make sure you don’t lose that tooth.

Maybe you were in a rugby match and were injured scoring the final goal to win the cup. Maybe you grind your teeth at night. Maybe you have some gum disease. If the injury in the rugby match does not sound like you then you may need to see a dentist to determine the problem.

Some treatments for a loose tooth include the following:

  • A mouth guard can help you if you are grinding your teeth at night (also an option for you rugby players out there).
  • Splinting a tooth is just how it sounds. The same way you splint a broken finger. You attach it temporarily to the other finger. Your tooth can be bonded to a tooth next to it until the tooth tightens up.
  • If it is gum disease, then your dentist will need to give you a routine clean. Pockets between your tooth and gums fill with bacteria and can cause your tooth to loosen. A routine clean will help to avoid this as well as treat it.

A loose tooth can be very worrisome, but they are quite manageable. All you have to do is go visit your dentist and we will take care of you. We have dentist offices in Idaho Falls, Rexburg, and Arco so you can get the dental care you need no matter what part of Eastern Idaho you are in. Call Eagle Rock Dental Care today to schedule a routine cleaning or invite us to watch the rugby match.
